Beyond Fortune Telling: Why Tarot is About Empowerment, Not Prediction

Intuition, Shadow Work and Taking Ownership of Your Soul Journey

When most people think about a tarot reading or psychic reading, they often imagine someone gazing into a crystal ball and predicting the future.

When will I find love?

Will I get the job?

Will my business succeed?

Will my ex come back?

These are questions that have been asked of psychics and tarot readers for decades, and I'm here to tell you - when you limit yourself to these kinds of questions, you are missing a valuable opportunity for insight, growth and change.

While there has always been a spiritual element to tarot, the role of the modern tarot reader is evolving. Rather than positioning themselves as someone who has all the answers, the most effective readers act as guides; holding space, offering perspective, and supporting genuine transformation as clients reconnect with their own inner wisdom and the guidance of Spirit.

As a reader, I welcome questions about love, work, health and the future. But the most transformative readings I've given have rarely been about what is going to happen next.

They've been about helping people understand why they keep finding themselves in the same situations, what their soul is trying to teach them, and how they can consciously create a different outcome. The insight that comes through a reading reconnects people with their intuition, reveals the deeper currents beneath a situation, and invites the client to step into a more authentic expression of themselves.

A psychic tarot reading (in my eyes) should not be an invitation to hand your power over to someone else. It is an opportunity to reclaim it. The cards do not exist to tell you who to be or what to choose. They exist to help you hear your own truth more clearly.

The Problem with "Just Tell Me What's Going to Happen"

During my time reading at community events, I mostly hear:

"Just tell me what's going to happen."

Many clients want the cards to reveal everything; and I get it - life is uncertain and relationships are sometimes too complicated for there to be clarity. I understand that career choices and big life changes can feel overwhelming and when we're at a crossroads (with no idea whether we're making the right choice or not) - we seek outside advice.

There's nothing wrong with seeking advice, but there is a subtle danger in approaching spiritual guidance in this way. If we expect a tarot reader, psychic or healer to tell us exactly what to do, we can unknowingly outsource our own journey. We hand over our authority and we stop engaging with the deeper questions that life is asking us to learn through.

Questions like:

• What do I truly want?

• What is my heart trying to tell me?

• What fears are influencing my choices?

• What patterns keep repeating in my life?

• What lesson is this experience inviting me to learn?

• What gifts am I here to share with the world?

  
  

These questions create real space and thinking for transformation.

A Good Tarot Reading Doesn't Remove Responsibility, it is a Tool for Spiritual Growth

Tarot works best when it helps us understand the energies, influences, opportunities and challenges that are present in our lives right now. A meaningful tarot reading will not remove free will, it will expand awareness and shine a light in the darker places - revealing patterns and thoughts that are calling for healing.

At its heart, tarot is a mirror. It reflects back the parts of ourselves that are ready to be seen and highlights our strengths, reveals our fears and exposes the stories we've outgrown.

It reminds us of who we are beneath the conditioning, expectations and limitations we've accumulated along the way. Many people come to tarot seeking answers, when what they're really seeking is change.

Genuine change requires self-awareness, and this is where shadow work becomes essential.

Shadow work is the practice of exploring the unconscious aspects of ourselves that influence our lives without us realising it.

• Our fears.

• Our wounds.

• Our limiting beliefs.

• Our self-sabotaging patterns.

• Our hidden gifts.

These aspects of ourselves continue operating behind the scenes until we bring them into awareness. Tarot can be one of the most powerful tools for shadow work because it allows us to see what we may otherwise avoid.

Instead of asking:

"When will I find love?"

A deeper question might be:

"What is preventing me from fully receiving love?"

"What conditions am I putting on how I give and receive love?"

Instead of asking:

"Will my business succeed?"

You could ask:

"Where am I being called to trust myself more deeply?"

"Is this job aligned with my soul purpose?"

These are the kinds of questions that change lives.

Your Soul Journey Cannot Be Outsourced

I believe every person arrives here carrying unique gifts, and is on a trajectory to learn (or offer) specific lessons. Your purpose is not to discover a fixed destiny that someone else can reveal to you.

Your purpose is to consciously participate in your own becoming.

Tarot can illuminate the path, and psychic insight can offer a higher perspective to navigate the uncertainty.

A reading should not replace your responsibility to choose your path. To choose how and when you heal, grow, learn and take action for yourself.

No reader or psychic can do your shadow work for you, or walk your path for you. The journey belongs to you - that's what makes it sacred.

The Future of Tarot

As more people awaken spiritually, I believe the role of tarot readers is shifting. We are moving away from fortune telling and toward empowerment. The future of readings will be about helping people remember who they are.

When approached with curiosity, openness and personal responsibility, tarot becomes far more than a reading. It becomes a pathway to self-awareness, intuition, healing and transformation. And ultimately, that's where the real magic lives.

There will always be readers who want to continue to offer all the answers - and that's fine - but it is not for me! I'm interested in seeing you become your own best guide, it is your life after all and I know for a fact that we all have deep wisdom within us to guide us on this earthly journey - we sometimes just need a little help to tap in.
